A punk as fuck thing happened the other night. Minding our own business at our every six week happy hour gig at the Hole in the Wall with Jessica Riddle on February 24th, and a surprise guest audience member shows, none other than Freddie Steady Krc. Freddie is a founding member (drums) for the pivotal Austin based pop band, the Explosives. He had heard that Raul’s Royal Foot played some Explosive’s tunes and it turns out that a song he wrote, Go Insane, was on the set list that night.
The Explosives formed in 1978, toured and released several records over a 5 year time period. In the summer of 1979 the Explosives became Roky Erickson’s permanent backing band. Freddie has continued as a session musician, has played with Jerry Jeff Walker and currently heads the Freddie Steady Five, who play Friday March, 3rd at the Midway Food Park and on Saturday March, 18th at Antone’s Records.
Look for the Explosives song, UFO, to be added to our set list soon.
